Soho Tribeca, the seven-time Group winning son of the great American Ideal who is again standing at Llowalong Farms, Kyabram (Vic.), is carving a niche for himself as a sire with his first racing crop as two-year-olds.
From 87 foals, the millionaire racehorse has been represented by 27 starters and 14 have emerged successful and eight have been placed.
They have banked stakes totalling $202,222, behind only his studmate Poster Boy ($529,951), Stay Hungry, Captain Crunch and McWicked on the first season sires’ money-winning list.
Soho Tribeca is ranked fourth on the table in respect of the number of individual winners and races won.
Among his winners have been Hell Im Smooth, the runner-up in the $129,000 Redcliffe Yearling Sales Series Final, the Melton and Menangle winner and dual Group 1 finalist Soho The Real Deal (1:56.5), Manhatten Chick (third in NSW Bred Final), Golden Tribe (1:55.3), the Vicbred finalist Alifetimeforliving and Doug’s Tribe (1:55.9).
With large crops of yearlings and foals still to represent him, Soho Tribeca looks certain to be ranked among the leading colonial bred stallions for the next few seasons at least.
“With the overwhelming response from breeders and trainers in the last couple of months, we can only expect that Soho Tribeca will be fully booked next season as he continues with his three-year-olds that will be sure to set the track alight,” Dr Kath McIntosh, principal of Llowalong Farms, said.
“Soho Tribeca is throwing strong, well mannered, intelligent foals just like himself, and as one trainer told me recently, they just want to win and you cannot teach a horse to try like the Soho Tribeca offspring do!
“And that really reflects the racing career that Soho Tribeca had – he was just so tough and strong and gave everything on the track.”
Soho Tribeca was a top racehorse in his own right, winning 21 races and $1.1 million in stakes including the WA Pacing Cup, Kilmore Cup in race record time, WA Golden Nugget, Vicbred 4YO Final and two heats of the Inter Dominion.
He met and defeated the best horses of his era including Lazarus, Chicago Bull, Tiger Tara and Lennytheshark before injury brought a halt to his career.
Besides being a son of the champion sire American Ideal, Soho Tribeca can boast a wealth of breeding on his dam’s side. His first two dams, Pixel Perfect and Amarillen, were named Australian Broodmare of the Year in 2018 and 2017 respectively.
