Poster Boy Overview

Poster Boy’s forte was his blistering speed. That speed became evident in his third start, with a final quarter in 26.8 seconds, leaving a classy field of juveniles in his wake in the Victorian Youthful Stakes. His next three starts resulted in comfortable victories to make a clean sweep - including the GROUP 1 final of the Vicbred Super Series 2YO Pacing C&G. Just two weeks after, Poster Boy again produced a 26.5 final quarter to demolish a smart bunch of colts in the Group Two Tatlow Stakes… the picket fence of wins increased to six.

The impeccably-bred colt born of two North American parents in Somebeachsomewhere and the Artsplace mare Aston Villa, continued on his winning vein eight victories in his three-year-old season including the prestigious $200,000 NSW Derby, (with last half and quarter in 53 and 26.3), the GROUP 1 Vicbred Super Series 3YO Pacing C&G Final, the Group 3 Victorian Sires Classic (final quarter in 25.9) plus heats of the Victorian Derby (second in Final) and Breeders Crown 3YO C&G Championships (third in Final).

Many horses shine as juveniles but find the step up into the 'big boy league' beyond them. He set the Tabcorp park Melton track ablaze on Australia Day in 2019 when he trounced a super field that included Spankem and Im Pats Delight in the GROUP 1 4YO Bonanza – rating a slick 1:52.8 over the 1720m journey. That victory was just a warm up for the $200,000 GROUP 1 Chariots of Fire at Tabcorp Park Menangle just three weeks later. His victory in 1:49.1 elevated him to elite company in the sub-1:50 club. Although he couldn’t out sprint the All Stars pair of Spankem and The Fixer in the Miracle Mile, he did pick up $100,000 for his 1;48.2 piece of work – finishing ahead of Tiger Tara, Chase Auckland and The Field Marshall.

Poster Boy was being set for the 4YO Vicbred and Breeders Crown series in 2019, when he was struck by a near life-ending bout of pneumonia. After taking months to recover from this serious ailment, he returned to Melton on ANZAC Day in 2020 and cruised home in 54 seconds to record his 20th win. Two further wins followed in May taking his career record to 22 wins and six placings from 30 starts.

His progeny have been in demand at the yearling sales in Australia and his first crop to hit the track have launched him to the top of the 2024 Australian First Season Sire table. At June 2024, he has had nineteen starters for seven winners including The Highlight Reel (2,1:54.7, $141,000) who opened his account with the Shakamaker 2YO Classic and remains unbeaten after taking a clean sweep of the Nutrien 2YO C&G Classic series.

Poster Boy's purely North American bloodlines make him an ideal choice - the best of US genetics with the Vicbred benefits of a Victorian stallion. If you're keen to find out more, or work through your mare's pedigree with an expert, contact Llowalong Farms today.
